Bharani Deepam

On the auspicious occasion of Bharani Deepam, in the early morning Muhurta, the sacred lamp was lit in the Nithyanandeshwara Sadashiva Temple by His Holiness Paramahamsa Nithyananda and then in all the other parts of the beautiful Nithyananda Peetam, Bengaluru Aadheenam. His Holiness Paramahamsa Sri Nithyananda Swami lit the lamps, and festively kicked off yet another reason for celebration. Karthikai Deepam is celebrated on the full moon day (Pournami) of the month of Karthigai as per South Indian calendar. It is one of the most important festivals of the ancient Tamils. His Holiness beautifully explained the significance of this story, where Shiva took the form of an endless shaft of brilliant light to enlighten Brahma – the creator and Vishnu – the sustainer.

Karthigai Deepam

On the evening of Karthigam Deepam, the flame on the summit of the sacred Arunachala Hill in Thiruvannamalai was lit. His Holiness witnessed the lamp lighting on Arunachula Hill via live telecast and then proceeded to light the ceremonial lamp in NIthyanandeshwara Sadashiva Temple. As part of Karthigai Deepam, all lamps lit during the day are collected and returned back to the Garbha Mandir where they are merged into one, giant lamp. Today is also the day that Devi became enlightened. She did Pancha Agni tapas to merge with Sadashiva. In the evening, Sadashiva appears as pure consciousness in the form of light. He gives half of himself to her and realizing her masculine energy, she becomes Ardhanandeshwara – the perfect blend of masculine and feminine conscious energies. This is the festival of giving enlightenment.
