Sri Krishna Jnamashtami or Gokulashtami or Sri Jayanthi is the birthday of Lord Krishna – the incarnation of Enlightened Love. Lord Vishnu around 5000 years ago took the form of Lord Krishna on the eighth night of waxing phase of moon in the Vedic lunar month of Bhadrapada. He landed in the charming Divine form in Mathura in India.
He expressed all the dimensions of Enlightenment and hence is called the Purna Avatar – the most complete Incarnation. On one end he exhibited the enchanting dimension of Himself melting in the divine love of Radha and other Gopikas – the simple cowherd damsels of Brindavan. On the other end He was the Incarnation who inspired Arjuna to go forward in the battle of righteousness by showing him the Cosmic form (the Vishvarupa darshana). Arjuna the brave warrior lost his courage when he was daunted by the situation where he saw all the people whom he loved and respected standing against him in the battle field. The words spoken in the battle field on that day 5000 yrs ago are even today a gospel that has been guiding millions of people towards achieving the ultimate state.
